Magazine Contents Page

This is the final design for my magazine contents page. At the top of the page the Title which is written in the same font as the front cover but in a different colour and size. The issue number and date are also at the top of the page. All of the writing is in white to stand out against the dark blue background, which is the same colour as the border on the front cover.
Below the title there is space for a photo of a student that takes up approximately 1/3 of the page.
Below the photo are the main stories featured in the magazine along with their page number. The sub-heading 'MAIN FEATURES' is written in the same font and colour as the title with the same background colour to make the page seem neat and tidy.
To improve, I would add a logo that I created that would also feature on the front cover.

Magazine Front Cover

This is the front cover for my college magazine. The magazine name is in large, black letters on a white background to stand out. Around the title is a blue border with the date and issue number. Below the title are three short sentences giving people information on what the magazine contains.
The rest of the page is taken up with a medium close up of a student looking happy and thoughtful.
Around the photo are four short captions that inform the reader of particular stories that will feature in the magazine. The writing is in white so it stands out from the photo and is clear to read.
To improve the front cover, I would have created a bar code and a magazine logo to place at the bottom of the magazine.

Flat Plan For My Mgazine Contents Page

This is the flat plan for my magazine contents page. The title 'CAMPUS' is in the same style writing as the front page but smaller. The date and issue number are also the same as the front cover.
In the middle of the page there is another photo of a student, although I don't need to take an actual photo when designing the page.
At the bottom of the page is a list of the main stories featured in the magazine.

Flat Plan For My Magazine Front Cover

This is the flat plan for my magazine front cover. The title 'CAMPUS' is in large capital letters to stand out with the issue number and date below. The photo is a medium close up of a student and takes up most of the page. Some of the featured stories are placed around the photo so readers can see what will be inside the magazine.
In the bottom right corner there is a barcode, and in the bottom left corner there is the college logo, however when making the real front cover if I want to have a logo I will have to design it myself.

Photo Chosen For Magazine Front Cover

I decided to use this photo for my magazine front cover because it fit the page better than the other photo and the flash wasn't on so the photo didn't seem so bright and shiney. I think the girls pose looks better as she looks happy and thoughtful.

Photo Not Chosen For Magazine Front Cover

I decided not to use this photo for my magazines front cover because the flash was on making the photo seem too bright. It also made the girl in the photo look shiney as well as part of the background.

Intorduction to my preliminary media coursework

As part of my media course I have to create a preliminary piece of coursework which requires me to create a magazine for the college, with my target audience being students.
I have to make both a front page and a contents page that would appeal to my target audience. To do this I have to upload flat plans of what i want the magazine to look like and comment on the decisions i made and how they will appeal to the intended reader. As well as flat plans, i have to upload atleast two photos of a student and comment on which one I decided to use and why.
